Bad Thing For Favre to Play
There are certain players that you just expect would retire with the team where they played most of their careers, and yes I understand the league has changed and it's all about money and winning now. But when a guy like Brett Favre decides not to retire and moves to the New York Jets; well...it just hurts. Seeing Favre in that Jets helmet ruins the history that he created in Green Bay.
Now I'm not even a Packer fan, I'm talking about all this as a fan of the game. This is like seeing Marino in a Giant Jersey or Elway in a Steelers jersey, it just looks bad. Another thing I hate about a superstar staying past his prime is it often hurts his name, you hate a player who has been so good come back and not play at their superstar level. Remember when Barry Sanders left the game? He was on top and we will always remember him that way. Think about Emmit Smith, he stuck around to long and just hurt all the good he did. How about Dion Sanders, comes back after all those years and just could not keep up with the game.
Another thing going against Favre is the city he will be playing in. New York. The media and fans can destroy anyone after just one bad game. Now I understand that Brett didn't have the choice of places to go, but for him, I would think he would want to stick around at a shot for a Super Bowl, and I think he would have had a better chance in Tampa, because the Jets have NO shot at a Super Bowl now and in the future.
